Pullwood Bay

Lake District National Park, UK, 2020

Located in a secluded bay off Windermere, in the Lake District National Park, the house is designed with the transparency and honesty of the modernist tradition. Glazed walls open up living spaces to panoramic lake views and also back into the woodland. Three glazed volumes are inter cut with planes of Douglas fir clad walls and exposed structural elements.

Built on a course concrete plinth sitting just above above the lakes natural water level, the house reflects traditional moorings and jetties of the local area.

The programme sets out a dialectic relation between ‘public’ and ‘private’ spaces with bedrooms positioned to the rear of a mezzanine overlooking double height living spaces.
