Harrogarte Town Hall
Harrogate, North Yorkshire, UK
2012
William Paul were appointed in May 2012 to develop proposals for Crescent Gardens, an iconic landmark building in the heart of Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
The site originally contained a bath house in the late 18th century, and was subsequently redeveloped for council offices in the 1930s. The building includes an attractive elongated neoclassical facade, composed of a centre pavilion with two wings.
Our proposal for the site includes an art gallery in former council chambers within the central pavilion, and sixteen residential apartments within the two wings. A new second floor addition contains two penthouses, set back from the front parapet of the principal facade and designed to be unobtrusive with simple fully glazed facades, so as not read in competition with the existing building.
